Pappas Bros. Steakhouse- Downtown Houston

What I ordered: Sea Bass w/jumbo  asparagus, roasted wild mushrooms and haricot verts

Let’s start out by addressing the obvious. This Pappas Bros. Steakhouse was in Houston and I know this blog is called Eat Gluten Free in Dallas but I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to share my experience. There are Pappas Bros Steakhouses in Dallas and the menu is the same.

On a separate note Pappas Bros is not known for being gluten free or even labeling gluten free items on their menu. But they use high quality food and have impeccable service so they will accommodate your gluten sensitivity and other food allergies.

I was attending a conference in Houston where I was invited to a dinner at Pappas. I have visited Pappas before but it was when I was unaware of my gluten sensitivity so this trip gave me a new set of eyes.

Gluten Sensitivity? Pass the Turtle Soup

I did mention to our waitress that I had a gluten sensitivity which she acknowledged by stating that although there is nothing marked on their menu to indicate gluten free they have gluten free options that they can provide. She notified the chef of my sensitivity, which I appreciated. She then went on to recommend the Turtle Soup as a starter. I know what you’re thinking, turtle soup…ewwww. It was delicious, similar to a beef stew. Great appetizer.

Second course was the salad, which the waitress assured me was gluten free as their house salad only has a light vinaigrette tossed on it. Moving on to the main course, my waitress advised that a filet mignon could be a suitable option for my gluten sensitivity or the sea bass along with the haricot verts aka French green beans, roasted wild mushrooms, or jumbo asparagus. I ordered all 3. I mean why not it’s vegetables, the more the merrier right? FYI, the sides are pretty big, it’s meant to share and since I was at a group dinner 3-4 people shared these vegetables with me.

The Sea Bass

So here is how I will describe the sea bass, if I could marry it I would. This delicate and perfect entrée that they presented to me deserved to be proposed to. It was beautiful! The taste was something unreal, it was that good and succulent. Cutting through it was like cutting through fresh butter at room temperature. It was topped with lobster. I said… (clearing my throat) it was TOPPED WITH L-O-B-S-T-E-R! Yeah that’s right it was topped with lobster…from Maine. All I can say is their chef must sit on a throne while he cooks and summon the foodie Gods from above because who tops Sea Bass with Lobster?! Since when did lobster become the side chick to sea bass?! Sea bass is already a top of the line seafood as is lobster, but to pair the two together is foodie insanity. It was impeccable, it was everything I’m looking for in a man. It was tender, satisfying and I didn’t need to do a lot to enjoy it. It was perfection. My friend who also has a gluten sensitivity order the filet mignon. I only had a bite but it was superb, that one was not a fail either.

 

Pappas Bros. Steakhouse has you covered, food sensitivity or not you will not be disappointed. Oh I almost forgot the most important thing. The Bugey Ceron sparkling wine. It’s a semi sweet rose and the bubbles do a little two step on your taste buds, it’s so good. I have to enjoy a glass every time I go to Pappas. Bros. Steakhouse. If you have any type of food allergy, Pappas Bros Steakhouse is more than accommodating so go ahead and add it to your GF restaurant list.
